Elden Ring Regions

The Lands Between is one connected map with no loading screens between regions, so the real question is not where a region is but whether your character is ready for it. The list below runs roughly in the order most players meet each area.

Region What it is known for
Limgrave The opening region: the Church of Elleh, Gatefront, and Stormveil Castle
Weeping Peninsula A gentler southern region with Castle Morne and easy upgrade materials
Liurnia of the Lakes Fog, flooded ground, and Raya Lucaria Academy
Caelid Scarlet rot, aggressive enemies, and Redmane Castle
Altus Plateau The route to the capital, reached by the Grand Lift of Dectus or the Ruin-Strewn Precipice
Mt. Gelmir Volcanic slopes and Volcano Manor
Leyndell, Royal Capital The golden capital, and the gate to the late game
Mountaintops of the Giants Snow, the Fire Giant, and the path onwards
Consecrated Snowfield A hidden region with the way to the Haligtree

Underground, the Siofra River, Ainsel River, Nokron, and Deeproot Depths are regions in their own right, reached by elevators and a few unlikely drops. They hold their own bosses and upgrade materials.

How to read a region’s difficulty

Two quick signals tell you whether you are in the right place: how much damage a basic enemy takes from your weapon, and how much health your flask restores relative to the hits you are taking. If a common soldier takes several full combos to kill, come back later.

Nothing in a completed region is lost by leaving it. Sites of Grace persist, map fragments stay unlocked, and the enemies you skipped will still be there when you return with better gear.

The expansion adds its own region, the Realm of Shadow, entered through Mohgwyn Palace and scaled separately from the base game.
