Elden Ring New Player Help
On this page
The first few hours go best if you treat Limgrave as a training ground rather than a corridor to the castle. Explore, collect, level up, and only then walk through the gate at Stormveil.
Do these five things first
- Rest at a Site of Grace and accept Melina’s accord, which unlocks levelling and gives you Torrent, the Spectral Steed.
- Visit the Church of Elleh and talk to Renna for the Spirit Calling Bell, so you can summon a Spirit Ash in boss fights.
- Find Merchant Kalé’s shop, also at the Church of Elleh, and buy the crafting kit.
- Push Vigour early. Health is the stat that lets you survive learning a fight.
- Hunt Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears, which increase how many flask uses you have and how much each one restores.
Splitting your levels across several damage attributes is the most common early mistake. Pick the attribute your weapon actually scales with and put everything else into Vigour for now.
Where to go before Stormveil
The Weeping Peninsula to the south is the best early detour. The enemies are gentler than the Caelid side, the map fragment is easy to find, and the region has Castle Morne, several churches, and plenty of upgrade materials sitting in the open.
If the road north feels too hard, that is the game telling you the same thing: there is an easier direction.
Reading a fight that beats you
When an attempt goes badly, check three things before you try again: are your flasks upgraded, is your weapon upgraded, and are you actually using a Spirit Ash? Those three fixes solve more early walls than any new weapon.
Habits worth building now
| Habit | Why it pays off later |
|---|---|
| Touch every Site of Grace | Fast travel and resets depend on them |
| Buy every map fragment | The map is your quest log |
| Talk to NPCs twice | Second conversations matter |
| Keep one weapon upgraded | Damage scales faster than levels |
Nothing you do in Limgrave locks you out of anything. Explore, and let the fights tell you when you are ready for the next region.
