Start the festival before you start the duel
Radahn is fought through the Radahn Festival at Redmane Castle in Caelid. The reliable activation route is to reach Altus Plateau and rest at an Altus Site of Grace, then return to Redmane Castle. Ranni’s quest can also lead to the Festival, but it is an alternative route rather than the only trigger. Once the Festival is active, reach the Chamber Outside the Plaza, speak with Jerren, take the elevator down to the beach, and use the portal to enter the arena.
The first run is a survival check. Activate the summon signs while moving, then dodge the large purple gravity arrow at the last moment instead of trusting dunes or terrain as cover. When Radahn starts the later arrow spread, use Torrent to keep lateral movement and avoid stopping in the open. One ally can divert his attention; more can make the fight easier to read, and fallen festival allies can be summoned again when their signs return.
Once close, stay focused on the motion of his swords and horse. His broad swings have reach, but their endings create room for a few attacks. Attacking greedily beneath him is dangerous because the next swing can begin before your recovery ends. Get your damage after a committed finish, then shift toward a safe side. Casters and bow users should make the same choice: fire after a clear sequence, not while he is turning into a charge.
Save attention for the second phase
At the transition, Radahn disappears and returns from the sky as a meteor. Mount up or sprint while looking upward and sideways; the important job is avoiding the re-entry line, not attacking the instant he lands. Afterward he adds gravity magic and wider explosions. Keep a little open space around you so a dodge has somewhere to go, and remount to cross the arena when a large effect has made close range unsafe.
| Situation | Reliable priority |
|---|---|
| Opening arrow pressure | Summon while moving, then dodge the large purple arrow at the last moment. |
| Later arrow spread | Mount Torrent and maintain lateral movement. |
| Allies are fighting him | Attack a flank after a completed swing; leave before the next chain. |
| An ally falls | Look for its returning sign only when Radahn is not already pressuring you. |
| Meteor transition | Watch the sky, create lateral distance, then re-establish the fight. |
Defeating Radahn yields his Great Rune and Remembrance, and the falling star opens the route to Nokron. That new crater is central to Ranni’s quest. His Great Rune, like other shardbearer runes, must be restored at its associated Divine Tower before it can be equipped. Do not assume the festival is the main-story finish line: it is an optional route for many endings, but it opens several major quest and underground paths.
