Elden Ring: A Useful First Limgrave Route
On this page
Build a small safety net before Stormveil
Limgrave gives you enough room to arrive at Margit with a reinforced weapon, more healing, and a few options without turning the opening into a checklist. Start at the Church of Elleh, then ride north to Gatefront. The nearby map stele is worth taking early because it makes roads, landmarks, and your own markers much easier to read. Rest at the Gatefront Grace to receive the meeting that unlocks levelling and Torrent if you have not already done so.
From there, use short loops rather than pushing straight through the castle gate. The Stormhill shack route is a clear way to see the castle approach and collect another Grace. South across the Bridge of Sacrifice leads to the Weeping Peninsula, an intentionally gentler side region with caves, churches, a mine, and upgrade materials. Return north when your weapon and flask feel better, not because you have exhausted every map icon.
| Stop | Why it earns the detour | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Church of Elleh | Merchant, anvil, and an early safe return | Buy only what supports the weapon or item plan you already have. |
| Gatefront | Map fragment, early Grace, and camp practice | Clear the outside guards one at a time; use the camp to test stealth and guard counters. |
| Limgrave Tunnels | Regular weapon materials | Follow the mine’s short branches, then leave if the miners make your present weapon feel wrong. |
| Churches and minor Erdtrees | Flask and Wondrous Physick progress | Mark the location after collecting an upgrade so a later route stays simple. |
Make markers do the remembering
Place a marker for a sealed door, a merchant, an enemy you could not finish, or a material node you need. That turns a retreat into a plan. The game does not require you to clear every cellar before travelling on, and an open-world boss that costs too many flasks is often a signal to explore elsewhere.
Avoid crossing into Caelid as a first destination just because a chest or teleport placed you there. Its enemies and status effects make it a poor place to learn the first combat rhythm. This is a base-game opening route. Shadow of the Erdtree is separate content and does not supply the early Limgrave upgrades described here. When the route is in place, use Flask Upgrades and Weapon Upgrades before committing to Stormveil.
