Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
After a power struggle in his Italian crime family, consigliere Vincenzo Cassano returns to Seoul to recover gold hidden beneath Geumga Plaza, a building his late Chinese partner secured. Babel Group wants the site for a tower, drawing Vincenzo into the legal fight led by lawyer Hong Cha-young and her father, Hong Yu-chan. When Yu-chan and other witnesses are killed and the deaths covered up, Cha-young joins Vincenzo’s Jipuragi law office. The plaza’s residents become his allies, using their skills and public stunts against Babel and its law firm, Wusang.
Babel’s public chairman Jang Han-seo is a front for older half-brother Jang Han-seok, who runs the company through violence. Vincenzo and Cha-young expose Babel’s pharmaceutical crimes, pressure its executives and work with prosecutor Jung In-kuk; the Guillotine File holds evidence of wider corruption. Vincenzo’s search for the buried gold complicates their campaign to save the plaza. The conflict turns personal when Han-seok orders the murder of Vincenzo’s estranged mother, Oh Gyeong-ja. Cha-young seeks a retrial of her murder conviction, while Vincenzo pursues revenge outside the courts.
In the finale, Han-seok shoots Cha-young and fatally wounds Han-seo when his brother intervenes. Vincenzo leaves Cha-young in hospital to finish the fight: he kills former prosecutor and Wusang lawyer Choi Myung-hee, then captures Han-seok and leaves him to die through a slow punishment. The recovered gold goes into Cha-young’s safekeeping. Her retrial of Oh Gyeong-ja’s case reduces the conviction from murder to manslaughter and exposes the attempted sexual assault behind the death. A year later, Cha-young meets Vincenzo at a diplomatic reception; he now heads the Cassano family and owns an island in Malta. Their reunion ends with a kiss.
