Babel's hidden chairman remains beyond Jipuragi's reach, so Vincenzo and Cha-young give him the nickname Babo while tracing who might know his identity. Director Gil looks promising because of his involvement with the Jang family's past. Prosecutor Jung has him under protection and discusses his demands for immunity. Vincenzo also learns more about his mother's earlier cancer diagnosis, raising doubts about the abandonment he has resented for years.
Joon-woo answers Babel's difficulties with violence. Prosecutors who resist him are abducted, and Seo is killed as a warning to Hwang. Cha-young comes home to footprints and an attacker carrying a hammer, but Vincenzo returns in time to fight the intruders. Shaken, she asks him to stay and eventually finds refuge at his apartment. Elsewhere, the tenants agree to search for the gold together, while the monks reject Vincenzo's offer to relocate their temple.
With fresh pressure on the banks, Babel obtains the investment it needs to restart its pharmaceutical plans. Jipuragi hopes Gil can identify the man behind the public chairman and prepares to question him. Instead, the safe house becomes a crime scene: Gil and the investigators guarding him have been killed. Four relatives of Babel's victims are also found lifeless inside a vehicle. Vincenzo and Cha-young arrive to face the deaths of people who had trusted them, while the witness who might have exposed Babel's leadership is gone.
