DREDGE Recording Rarities Guide: Four Exotic Fish and Research Parts

On this page

Start it at any pontoon

Speak to the Travelling Merchant at a pontoon to begin Recording Rarities. She wants the locations of four Exotic fish: Oarfish, Gulper Eel, Goliath Tigerfish, and Coelacanth. You need to catch each fish once, then report its location. You do not need to keep the fish in the hold for the hand-in, so sell it or make room after the catch if that helps your return.

Each report gives two Research Parts. Treat the pursuit as four useful gear checkpoints, not a last-minute collection chore. If the next Exotic needs a habitat you cannot cover, spend the Parts on the exact missing rod only if it also advances your current route.

Build the route around the hard requirement

Fish Region and landmark Requirement to plan for
Oarfish Gale Cliffs, behind the waterfall at P3 Abyssal-capable rod, Packed Explosives, and a route through the waterfall cave
Gulper Eel Stellar Basin around F4 Hadal-capable rod near the edge of the deep basin
Goliath Tigerfish Twisted Strand around E12 Mangrove-capable rod and access through the blocked channel
Coelacanth Devil’s Spine around Q12 Abyssal-capable rod, Packed Explosives, and a clear route through debris

The map coordinates are navigation aids, not a replacement for the encyclopedia. Open the entry first and confirm the habitat and time. If you have reached the right square with a rod that cannot fish there, return to a dock and fix the setup rather than circling through night water.

Report as you go

The Merchant appears at the regional pontoons. After catching an Exotic, report it on the next safe stop instead of carrying the fish across half the map. This turns each fish into a small loop: prepare at a dock, catch it, report at a pontoon, then spend or store the new Research Parts.

The Oarfish and Coelacanth make deep gear the real gate. The Goliath Tigerfish is a route-and-Mangrove problem. The Gulper Eel is a Hadal problem. These are different decisions; one expensive rod does not automatically solve the entire list. Abyssal and Hadal Gear helps with the deep pair, while Explosives and Blocked Routes covers the Twisted Strand and Devil’s Spine obstructions.

Do not mix it with a relic run

Recording Rarities is optional. The Collector relics should go straight back to Blackstone Isle when you find them. Carrying a Ring, Necklace, or Watch while you hunt a second target is how a straightforward job becomes a cramped night return. Use regional pursuit pages for the main route and come back when the relevant rod, cargo space, and daylight line up.
