DREDGE Gale Cliffs Fish Guide: Coastal Catches, Crab Pots and Oarfish
On this page
Fish the outer water before the cliff maze
Gale Cliffs sits in the south-east at M2–P5. The accessible outer water gives two straightforward daytime rod-or-net catches: Oceanic Perch and Tiger Mackerel. For the base game, Rock Crab and Decorator Crab are the local pot catches; set a pot at the start of a visit and lift it on the way back to Ingfell or the Dusty Pontoon.
This is a practical base-game route table for the ordinary named targets and Oarfish, not a full Gale Cliffs species or aberration index. The Iron Rig DLC later adds Trilobite in Gale Cliffs, but it is not an ordinary base-game pot catch. The table states the exact time and capture method to plan before setting out.
| Fish | Time | Habitat and gear decision |
|---|---|---|
| Oceanic Perch | Day | Coastal water; rod or trawl net. |
| Tiger Mackerel | Day | Coastal water; rod or trawl net. |
| Rock Crab / Decorator Crab | Any | Crab pots; deploy a pot rather than searching rod spots. |
| Oarfish | Any | Abyssal rod and the waterfall cave at P3. |
Treat Oarfish as a route unlock
The Oarfish is part of Recording Rarities, but it is not just another Gale catch. Reach the cave behind the waterfall at P3 and fit an Abyssal-capable rod. The fish is available at any time once those requirements are met.
That preparation still matters: a general rod cannot fish the Abyssal spot. Bring the correct rod on one daylight trip, catch the Oarfish, then report it to a Travelling Merchant when convenient. Packed Explosives unlock other Gale routes, including the tunnel used for Best Before, but they are not an Oarfish requirement.
Keep the region visit tidy
Use Ingfell as the safe reset between a day run and the inner channel work. If a collection goal asks for an aberration, do not assume every named fish has the same availability; check its encyclopedia entry after discovering the base fish. Explosives and Blocked Routes explains the consumable, and Best Before uses the same opened inner tunnel for the Conger Eel.
