DREDGE Devil's Spine Fish Guide: Volcanic Water, Night Catches and Coelacanth

On this page

Treat the volcanic region as a prepared trip

Devil’s Spine is not a good place to arrive with one general-purpose rod and a full hold. Check the encyclopedia habitat icon, fit the matching rod, carry enough repair and cargo room for the goal, and leave a safe return path. Volcanic water, narrow approaches, and late-game hazards make a short target run more reliable than a broad night search.

This is a base-game route-method reference for the named night catches, pot work, and Coelacanth gate. It does not claim to list every Devil’s Spine fish, aberration, or spawning spot.

Several regional catches are time-sensitive. The Cusk Eel is the region’s night-only Volcanic fish and can be caught with either a rod or trawl net. Handle daytime and any-time entries on a separate loop when possible. Crab pots remain necessary for the region’s shellfish entries, so bring pots if the encyclopedia gap shows a pot icon rather than repeatedly scanning rod spots.

Goal Time Gear and route requirement
Cusk Eel Night Volcanic habitat; rod or trawl net.
Shellfish entries Any Crab pots, not rod or trawl net.
Coelacanth Any Abyssal-capable rod, Packed Explosives, and the debris route at Q12.

Coelacanth is an explosives job too

The Coelacanth is the final Recording Rarities fish. It appears around Q12 and requires an Abyssal-capable rod. The debris route also needs Packed Explosives. The clock is not the restriction, so use daylight to make the navigation easier. After catching it, report back to a Travelling Merchant: Recording Rarities records the catch and does not ask you to deliver the fish.

Do not confuse the Coelacanth route with the Pocket Watch or Stone Tablet work. Those are separate Devil’s Spine objectives with their own story and cargo demands. Recording Rarities explains the report reward, while Stone Tablets and the Ancient Lighthouse covers the optional tablet route.

If the required rod is still missing, return to a dock and use Abyssal and Hadal Gear. Buying an upgrade while already in dangerous water usually adds an unnecessary second trip.
