DREDGE Devil's Spine Pursuits Guide: Flames of the Deep and the Watch

This page includes story or boss spoilers.

On this page

Start at the Ancient Temple

The Fanatic at the Ancient Temple begins Flames of The Deep. He asks you to light three statues with Fathomless Flames. Each flame comes from a Devil’s Spine shrine, so use the temple as the point you return to rather than treating the region as open water.

Devil’s Spine has volcanic vents, debris, and aggressive fish schools around the shrine routes. Sail from vent to vent when you can see the red lava paths, and avoid steering close to a fish school simply to save a few seconds. A damaged engine or blocked route is much more expensive than a daylight reset at a dock.

Bring the correct shrine cargo

The three shrine submissions are specific:

Shrine slab Bring Result
P13 One Squat Lobster and one Spider Crab Fathomless Flame
P14 One Ghost Shark and one Pale Skate Fathomless Flame
O14 Any two Aberrations Fathomless Flame and the Encrusted Talisman

The slab accepts the actual cargo, so do not sell a rare fish on the approach and assume the journal will remember it. Load the pair you need, travel to the marked slab, deposit it, and take the flame home if the return is becoming dark.

Finish the ritual and keep the relic route clean

Once you have three flames, place them in the temple statues and speak to the Fanatic again. The pursuit rewards the Encrusted Talisman and advances the regional story. The Pocket Watch is the final Collector relic. It deserves its own cargo space and a straight return to Blackstone Isle.

Devil’s Spine also contains the Stone Tablets side pursuit. It is tempting to combine tablets, a shrine puzzle, and the Watch because all are nearby, but that approach asks a small boat to carry too many large quest items. Complete the relic return first if you are nearing the ending, then revisit with explosives and room for tablets. Stone Tablets and the Ancient Lighthouse gives that route separately.

Know when to stop

Devil’s Spine Fish Reference keeps the volcanic fishing plan and Coelacanth requirements separate from the shrine and Pocket Watch route. After the Watch returns to the Collector, the story reaches its final decision. Do not select dialogue at the final location casually if you want to see both outcomes. Make a manual decision point in your own playthrough, read DREDGE Endings only when you are ready for full spoilers, and finish any optional route you want before triggering an ending.
