DREDGE Four Fish Shrines Guide: Cod, Crab, Shark, and Aberration Solutions
On this page
Shrines take cargo, not encyclopedia credit
The four base-game fish shrines are Rock Slabs with shaped inventory spaces. Catching the right fish is only the first step: keep it in the hold, reach the slab, and arrange it to fill the shape. Fish placed in a slab stop degrading, so you can solve the inventory puzzle without racing the freshness clock.
Do not bring quest cargo, a passenger, and a shrine collection on the same first attempt. The shrine rewards are unique equipment, so the clean approach is to prepare the exact fish at a nearby dock and sail straight to the slab.
| Shrine | Map square | Submission | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cod Altar | J9, north of Greater Marrow | Five Cod | Sinew Spindle rod |
| Crab Altar | P3, Gale Cliffs | One Decorator Crab and two Rock Crabs | Mouth of the Deep crab pot |
| Shark Altar | H2, Stellar Basin | Hammerhead, Bronze Whaler, Blacktip Reef Shark, Ghost Shark | Viscera Crane rod |
| Aberrant Altar | D13, Twisted Strand | Any one aberrant fish | Tendon Rod |
Start with the Cod Altar
The Cod Altar is the easiest early puzzle because it is close to The Marrows and asks for common local fish. Keep five Cod instead of selling the last few catches, leave room to lay them out, and approach J9 from Greater Marrow. The Sinew Spindle covers Coastal and Shallow fishing, making it a useful early rod if it fits your layout.
Save crabs and sharks for a prepared run
The Crab Altar needs crab-pot catches, not a rod cast at the altar. Place pots in appropriate shallow water, collect the exact Decorator Crab and Rock Crabs, then return before the pot route turns into a night crossing. Its reward, Mouth of the Deep, is a crab pot with a different role from a fishing rod.
The Shark Altar is the longest collection. It asks for sharks from more than one region and includes the Ghost Shark. Do not sell a shark after catching it because you assume the shrine will log it. Make the shrine run only after you can fit the fish and a deep-capable route. The Viscera Crane reaches Abyssal and Hadal habitats; Abyssal and Hadal Gear explains where that changes your choices.
Use the Aberrant Altar when chance gives you a fish
The Twisted Strand altar accepts any aberration. That makes it flexible: if you catch one while doing a local pursuit, keep it and make a direct detour to D13 instead of selling it. The Tendon Rod covers Oceanic, Mangrove, and Shallow habitats.
The three Devil’s Spine slabs look related but are part of Flames of The Deep, not this four-shrine set. They require their own fish, give Fathomless Flames, and advance a story pursuit. Use Devil’s Spine Pursuits for those exact submissions.
