DREDGE Gale Cliffs Pursuits Guide: Hermitage, Explosives, and the Music Box

This page includes story or boss spoilers.

Make Ingfell your first safe stop

Gale Cliffs has a broad approach, then narrow rock channels behind it. Dock at Ingfell before forcing a late-day route through the cliffs. It gives you a clear place to sell, repair, and reset the clock while you decide whether the next task is the Music Box relic or the Hermit’s family problem.

The regional main pursuit is Hermitage. Speak with the Hermit at the Ruins, find the Family Crest, show it to him, and return it to the Retired Whaler at Ingfell. The journal then points you to a pre-set explosive charge on debris. Detonate that charge, report to the Whaler, return to the Hermit, and carry the Hermit back to Ingfell.

The passenger leg is the part to respect. Make cargo room before the Hermit boards and sail directly to Ingfell. Do not use that crossing to test a night route or take an optional dredging detour.

What Hermitage changes

Completing the handoff opens access to Packed Explosives. The Whaler sells them at Ingfell, and the Travelling Merchant can also supply them after the pursuit. Explosives clear loose debris; they are a key for blocked routes, not a weapon for ordinary threats. Read Explosives and Blocked Routes before buying a stack and filling the hold.

The quest’s own blast creates a shortcut in Gale Cliffs. Use it as a route improvement: go through in daylight once, note which dock it reconnects, then decide whether it helps the next relic run. It does not mean every obstruction on the map is now free to clear.

Work the relic into the same visit

The Collector sends you to Gale Cliffs for the Music Box. Keep that story objective separate from the Hermit’s travel sequence: relic cargo, passenger cargo, and explosive cargo all compete for the same grid. Return the Music Box to Blackstone Isle when it is safe rather than holding it while you run unrelated errands.

Gale Cliffs also contains the crab shrine and one of the Recording Rarities fish. Those are sensible follow-ups only after you have a dock route and the tools they ask for. The shrine takes exact fish shapes; Four Fish Shrines lists the actual submission rather than treating every crab as interchangeable.

Good order for a first visit

The Conger Eel request needs the opened tunnel and a deliberately rotting catch; use Best Before for that hand-in. Gale Cliffs Fish Reference separates the ordinary oceanic catches, pot target, and explosives-gated Oarfish route.

  1. Leave at dawn and dock at Ingfell.
  2. Accept Hermitage and take the Family Crest through the journal steps.
  3. Detonate the supplied charge and bring the Hermit straight to Ingfell.
  4. Buy an explosive only when you can name the debris it will clear.
  5. Make the Music Box trip with room for the relic and a return plan.

This order gives you a shortcut and future access without pretending Gale Cliffs is a one-trip clear. Next, head to Stellar Basin Pursuits when the Collector asks for the Ring.
