Season synopsis

Cal Lightman’s consultancy brings Gillian Foster, Ria Torres and Eli Loker into investigations where concealed feelings can point towards several different explanations. In A Perfect Score, the murder of Danielle Stark exposes pressure around school performance and a teacher paid to take entrance tests for students. Danielle’s mother secretly arranged the cheating, but she did not kill her. The investigation reaches Riley Berenson, whose father tries to take the blame before Lightman challenges his confession.
The same case pairs Danielle’s death with a crashed experimental aircraft. Pilot David Markov insists that he took no medication, despite a positive toxicology result. Foster discovers that his wife secretly gave him the drug, believing she was helping him cope. At home, Lightman struggles with Emily’s party and her wish for privacy. His fictional deductions can solve a case without making him comfortable about what his daughter chooses to keep from him.
Sacrifice closes the season with bomb attacks and the discovery that the apparent suicide bombers unknowingly carried remotely detonated explosives. The team uses illegal mosque recordings to pursue the organisers; Omar Kahn identifies his nephew, and Reynolds shoots before the suspect can detonate another bomb. Torres’s boyfriend Dupree survives an explosion but remains unconscious after surgery. Lightman concealed his disappearance to keep her working, and she confronts him about taking away her choice. Foster also tells Lightman that she and Alec are separating, leaving personal fractures alongside the interrupted attacks.
