Better Call Saul

Season 5

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Jimmy registers as Saul Goodman and builds a practice among Albuquerque’s criminal clients, advertising steeply discounted legal help. When Mesa Verde pushes a branch project onto Everett Acker’s home, Kim tries to protect him and Jimmy undermines the bank’s plan with a scheme of his own. The maneuver damages Kim’s trust, but she later marries Jimmy so their conversations about his cases can remain confidential. Kim’s career and her growing taste for cons pull in opposite directions.

Lalo Salamanca tests Gus’s operation and uses Nacho, still reporting to Gus, to reach the cartel’s business. After Lalo is jailed, Jimmy helps him secure release by carrying seven million dollars in bail money across the desert. Gunmen attack Jimmy on the return trip; Mike, who has been following him, kills the attackers and guides him back through the heat. Jimmy hides what happened from Kim until Lalo visits their apartment to question him. Kim rebukes Lalo for putting Jimmy in danger, and he leaves as his rivalry with Gus continues. Nacho remains caught between both sides.

Mike withdraws from Gus’s work after killing Werner, but a violent injury brings him back under Gus’s care. Their shared anger binds Mike to Gus’s campaign against the Salamancas. In Mexico, Nacho opens Lalo’s gate for Gus’s assassins; Lalo survives and recognizes the betrayal. Jimmy and Kim hide in a hotel after Lalo’s interrogation, where Kim proposes destroying Howard Hamlin’s standing to force a Sandpiper settlement. The season ends with the two preparing to target Howard as Lalo returns to plan his response.
