After Lalo leaves their apartment, Jimmy tells Kim the truth about the desert ambush and Mike’s role in saving him. They move to a hotel because they fear Lalo may return. Mike later tells Jimmy that Lalo will be killed that night. Kim ignores Jimmy’s request to stay hidden, accepts twenty pending felony cases from the public defender, and tells Howard she has left Schweikart & Cokely. Howard blames Jimmy; Kim rejects his assumption that Jimmy made her decision.
Kim tells Jimmy that she wants to force a settlement in the Sandpiper case by sabotaging Howard. Jimmy says she may not be comfortable with the plan, but Kim insists that she can choose it for herself. The proposal turns their hotel conversation into a shared scheme against Howard, while their immediate safety depends on Mike’s warning about Lalo. Kim’s choice grows out of her own anger at Howard and her wish to secure the settlement sooner.
In Mexico, Lalo arrives at his family compound with Nacho and prepares him for a meeting with Don Eladio. Nacho opens the back gate for Gus’s assassins, who kill most of Lalo’s family and guards. Lalo kills all but one attacker, then forces the survivor to tell the middleman that Lalo has been killed. He discovers Nacho is gone and leaves the compound, aware that the attack came from inside his own organization.
