Nacho flees after Lalo survives the attack on his home. He bargains with Gus to surrender in exchange for his father’s safety. At the desert meeting, Nacho gives the agreed cover story blaming the Alvarez family and clearing Gus, then admits he switched Hector’s pills before killing himself. The public account holds that Lalo died in the Mexico attack, though he survived. Meanwhile, Jimmy and Kim’s scheme helps force a Sandpiper settlement, but Lalo arrives at their apartment and kills Howard.
Lalo investigates Gus’s secret lab. He sends Kim toward Gus while holding Jimmy, but Gus kills him in the unfinished lab. Mike’s team stages Howard’s death as a suicide, then buries Howard and Lalo beneath the lab. Kim quits law and leaves Jimmy, who carries on as Saul Goodman. Years later, living in Florida, she gives Howard’s widow a written account of her role in his death.
The story moves through Jimmy’s years as Saul and into post-Breaking Bad Nebraska. As Gene Takavic, he manages an Omaha Cinnabon until Jeff recognizes him. Gene recruits Jeff for a department-store theft; later, he targets a man with cancer after Buddy refuses to help. Marion discovers Gene’s identity and alerts police. Gene is caught after hiding in a dumpster with his diamonds.
Facing federal charges, Gene bargains his sentence down to seven years by claiming Walter White threatened him. At his Albuquerque hearing, with Kim watching, he abandons the plea and admits he chose to help build Walt’s drug business. He accepts responsibility for Howard’s death and for hurting Chuck, asking to be called Jimmy McGill. His confession brings an 86-year sentence. In prison, Kim visits; they share a cigarette before she leaves.
