Saul Gone

Contains spoilers for Better Call Saul season 6 episode 13 and earlier episodes.

After Marion alerts the authorities, Gene flees through Omaha and hides in a dumpster, but police find him and take him into custody. He uses his call to contact Bill Oakley and secures him as an adviser for the federal case. The prosecutors outline a long list of charges, and Gene bargains his way down to a seven-and-a-half-year sentence by claiming he was controlled by Walter White. When he learns that Kim has already told the authorities about Howard, he changes course. At his hearing, Gene admits his own role in Walt’s crimes and the harm done to Howard, then explains how his brother Chuck shaped his choices. The judge sentences him to 86 years.

The episode links Jimmy’s past and present through conversations about regret. In a desert flashback, Mike chooses the day he first took a bribe, while Jimmy imagines investing in Berkshire Hathaway. Another flashback with Walt forces Jimmy to hear that a time machine is only a way to ask about regret. Kim attends the hearing and later visits Jimmy in prison. They share a cigarette in a visiting room; as she leaves, Jimmy gestures finger guns toward her. The story ends with Jimmy serving his sentence and accepting the consequences he had spent years trying to escape.
