Better Call Saul

Season 4

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

After Chuck’s death, Jimmy shuts down emotionally and serves the remaining year of his law suspension. He fills the time with small hustles, including stealing a Hummel figurine and selling prepaid phones to Albuquerque’s criminal customers. Kim keeps working for Mesa Verde while taking on pro bono cases, then joins Schweikart & Cokely to make room for both kinds of work. She later helps defend Huell after his arrest, bringing her and Jimmy back together.

Mike takes charge of a secret crew of German engineers building Gus Fring’s underground lab. He manages their isolation and keeps the impatient workers in line, but Werner misses his wife and slips away to meet her. Lalo Salamanca, newly overseeing the local Salamanca operation, tracks him down before Mike can. Lalo calls Werner while posing as one of Mike’s associates and coaxes details about the lab from him; Mike arrives and cuts off the call. Gus orders Werner killed, and Mike carries it out. Lalo now knows Gus is hiding a major project.

Nacho is forced into Gus’s organization after Gus reveals he knows Nacho switched Hector’s heart pills. Gus stages an attack that kills Arturo and leaves Nacho injured, making the assault look like a rival gang’s work; he then uses Nacho as an informant inside the Salamancas. Jimmy, meanwhile, persuades the bar to restore his license by pretending to grieve Chuck in a speech that moves Kim. Once they leave the hearing, he admits the performance was a con and says he will practice under the name Saul Goodman. Kim is caught off guard as Jimmy steps into the criminal-law persona he has been building.
