Season 6

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

The Rus invasion leaves Norway’s rulers scrambling, and Ivar joins Prince Oleg while Bjorn tries to unite resistance. Lagertha, retired from fighting, returns to defend her village against bandits; after surviving her wounds, she is killed by Hvitserk, who hallucinates Ivar. Bjorn gathers forces for the larger defense and is gravely wounded during the Rus attack. Despite appearing close to death, he survives long enough to rally Norway.

Badly injured, Bjorn rides out and his presence helps turn the battle against the Rus, but he dies after the Norwegians repel the invasion. Ivar and Hvitserk later leave Rus for Kattegat. Harald becomes king and marries Ingrid, while Erik tries to seize power and Ingrid blinds him; Erik is then killed during the struggle. Ivar and Hvitserk raid England, where Harald dies during the campaign, and Ivar deliberately allows a Saxon soldier to stab him. Hvitserk survives and is baptized as Athelstan.

Ubbe and Torvi survive starvation and a dangerous crossing before reaching land inhabited by the Mi’kmaq. They reunite with Floki, who survived the Iceland cave collapse and has found a home there. The settlers receive a welcome, but one of them kills a local man while stealing gold. Ubbe executes the murderer and accepts that his people are guests rather than owners of the land. Back in Kattegat, Ingrid rules as queen. The final scene leaves Ubbe talking with Floki on the coast, far from the wars that killed his brothers.
