Season 1

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

At Moordale, Otis Milburn knows sex therapy from his mother Jean, but his own anxiety keeps him from physical intimacy. After helping classmate Adam, he is recruited by Maeve Wiley to run an informal clinic: she finds clients and handles payment while he gives advice. The students’ problems make the clinic popular and bring Otis and Maeve closer, though he cannot admit his feelings. Maeve is dating swimmer Jackson, who asks Otis for help winning her over; the resulting grand declaration turns their casual relationship into a strained romance.

Otis also grows close to Ola Nyman, whose father Jakob begins seeing Jean. His best friend Eric is bullied by Adam, then attacked after Otis misses their birthday tradition. An older man’s kindness helps Eric reclaim the colorful self-expression he had tried to suppress. In detention, Eric and Adam share a kiss and sexual encounter, but Adam is sent to military school before they can discuss it. Elsewhere, Otis helps Maeve arrange an abortion, and their clinic friendship becomes one of the few places she feels supported. Maeve’s brother Sean’s drugs are found at school, and she takes responsibility.

Maeve faces a tribunal and is barred from campus while the school decides her future. Jackson wins a swimming championship hoping to help her, but the headmaster refuses to change course. Their relationship ends, and Maeve’s partnership with Otis also fractures after she learns Jackson paid him for advice. Jean and Jakob resume their affair, while Otis and Ola become a couple. At the season’s close, Maeve comes to Otis’s home with the essay award he took from Groff’s office for her; she sees Otis and Ola kiss, and her confession goes unspoken.
