Jackson wants his casual relationship with Maeve to become something more, so he asks Otis for advice and offers payment. Otis knows Maeve's interests through their work together, but helping Jackson makes his own feelings harder to ignore. He gives Jackson information about her reading and tastes, then tries to discourage him with an exaggerated romantic gesture he expects Maeve to hate. Eric recognizes the jealousy behind the advice and challenges Otis's behavior. Otis finds himself unable to undo his interference without admitting either that Jackson paid him or that he wants to be with Maeve himself.
The clinic also brings Otis a couple whose friendship has become an unhappy romance. After getting distracted by questions about technique, he discovers that attraction is the real difficulty and encourages an honest conversation. Adam continues targeting Eric, including an attack on his family's car, while Ola visits with her father Jakob and gets to know Otis. Maeve sells Adam an essay, needing money and seeing another way to earn it. Jackson eventually gathers students in the canteen and sings to Maeve before asking her to be his girlfriend. She accepts, defeating Otis's attempt to sabotage the relationship. He watches the couple kiss while his involvement in Jackson's courtship remains hidden from Maeve.
