Moordale holds its school dance, and Otis invites Ola while Maeve attends with Jackson. Eric decides to return to the clothes and makeup he loves after meeting a confident older man. His father drives him to the dance and offers a warmer response to his appearance. Inside, Otis apologizes, and the friends share a dance. Otis's evening with Ola goes less smoothly: Maeve's interference and his clumsy description of their different social positions leave Ola upset. Jackson drinks heavily with Sean and becomes increasingly unable to hide how trapped he feels by the expectations surrounding his swimming.
Liam ignores Lizzie's refusals and makes a dangerous declaration from the dance's suspended moon. Otis talks to him about rejection, persuading him that someone else's feelings cannot be forced. Liam gets down after a fall, and Groff discovers drugs in his jacket. Sean's involvement threatens Maeve's place at school. Otis, shaken by the possibility of serious harm, tells Maeve he wants to stop the clinic. Their argument worsens when Jackson reveals that he paid Otis for advice about her. Maeve feels betrayed by both boys. Later, Jackson argues with his mother and seeks shelter at Maeve's caravan. Otis returns home with Eric and discovers that Jean has been writing about his personal problems.
