Season synopsis

Daenerys Targaryen lands at Dragonstone with her dragons and advisers, ready to claim the Iron Throne. Jon Snow travels from Winterfell to ask for her help against the White Walkers, while Sansa governs the North. Their first meeting is tense: Jon warns that the army of the dead threatens every ruler. Arya heads north too, reuniting with Sansa and Bran at Winterfell.
Daenerys loses allies when Euron Greyjoy ambushes her fleet and the Lannisters seize Highgarden. She answers with Drogon and the Dothraki, burning a Lannister supply train. Jon shows her the dragonglass beneath Dragonstone, and they begin to trust each other. At Winterfell, Littlefinger tries to turn Arya and Sansa against each other. The sisters see through his scheme, and Arya executes him.
Jon leads a small party beyond the Wall to capture a wight as proof for Cersei. Surrounded by the dead, they call for help; Daenerys flies north, but the Night King kills Viserion with an ice spear. Jon is left behind and escapes with help from Benjen Stark. The Night King later raises Viserion as an undead dragon. After the rescue, Jon pledges himself to Daenerys.
At a summit in King’s Landing, the leaders present Cersei with the captured wight, and she agrees to send her army north. She later admits to Jaime that she lied; he leaves to join Jon and Daenerys. Sam and Bran piece together Jon’s birth: he is Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark’s legitimate son. As Jon and Daenerys sail north together, the Night King uses Viserion to tear open the Wall. The dead pour through the breach and march south.
