At Castle Black, Melisandre brings Jon back to life, and he executes the men who betrayed him before leaving the Night's Watch. Sansa reaches him and persuades him to fight Ramsay for Winterfell. Their smaller force is nearly crushed, but the Knights of the Vale arrive after Littlefinger answers Sansa's appeal with the Vale's cavalry. Jon's army retakes the castle; Ramsay is captured, and Sansa leaves him to die in his own kennel. The northern lords proclaim Jon King in the North. Across the sea, Daenerys returns from Vaes Dothrak with the Dothraki behind her and sails west with her dragons and a fleet.
Bran's visions take him into the past, where he sees how the Night King was made and how Hodor came to hold the door so Bran and Meera can escape. Bran's Tower of Joy vision reveals Lyanna Stark is Jon's mother. In King's Landing, Cersei avoids her trial by destroying the Great Sept with wildfire; Margaery, Loras, the High Sparrow and Kevan Lannister die in the blast. Tommen kills himself afterward, and Cersei takes the throne. Arya defeats the Waif, rejects the Faceless Men's identity and leaves Braavos as Arya Stark. Back in Westeros, she kills Walder Frey for the Red Wedding.
