The Hound has survived and now lives among Brother Ray's peaceful community, helping build a sept. Ray encourages him to leave killing behind, but threatening visitors claiming the Brotherhood's name unsettle him. In the North, Jon, Sansa and Davos seek soldiers for their attack on Winterfell. Tormund persuades the wildlings to fight, and Lyanna Mormont supplies a small force from Bear Island. Robett Glover refuses, blaming Robb for failing to protect his family. Jon wants to march despite their limited numbers. Unable to persuade him to wait, Sansa writes a letter seeking help without sharing the move with him.

Olenna refuses Cersei's request to remain and fight the Faith. Jaime takes control of the siege at Riverrun after the Freys fail to frighten the Blackfish with Edmure's threatened execution. The Blackfish refuses Jaime's demands. In Volantis, Yara tells Theon that they will seek Daenerys's support before Euron can reach her. Arya arranges passage from Braavos, but the Waif attacks in an old woman's disguise and stabs her. Arya escapes into a canal and emerges wounded. The Hound returns from gathering wood to find Ray hanged and the community murdered. He takes an axe and sets off after the attackers.
