Season 4

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

After Jesse kills Gale, Gus kills Victor in front of Walter and Jesse, then keeps both cooks under pressure in his lab. Walter buys a gun and searches for a way to strike first, while Skyler uses a gambling story to buy the car wash and disguise their money. Hank studies Gale's notes and suspects Gus is tied to the blue meth. Jesse is pulled between the two men: Gus gives him responsibility, while Walter fears he will be replaced and left exposed.

The conflict reaches Mexico, where Gus, Mike and Jesse meet the cartel. Jesse proves he can cook, and Gus poisons Don Eladio and his men before returning north. Skyler works to protect the family finances and handle Ted Beneke's tax trouble. Gus threatens Walter's family and signals that Jesse may be able to cook without him. When Brock, the son of Jesse's girlfriend Andrea, becomes gravely ill, Jesse believes Walter's ricin is involved and turns against him.

Walter recruits Hector Salamanca, whom Gus has tormented, to help set a trap. Hector detonates a bomb on his wheelchair when Gus visits the nursing home, killing both men. Walter frees Jesse and they destroy the lab. Jesse later learns Brock was poisoned by lily-of-the-valley, not ricin, but Walter lets him believe Gus was responsible. The final image of a potted plant at Walter's home reveals that his victory depended on a dangerous lie to Jesse.
