After the Bite

After the Bite is a paranormal romance by the Canadian writer Lynsay Sands, published in 2022. It belongs to her Argeneau series about a large family of long-lived vampires living quietly among human beings.

Valerian works as an enforcer for the immortals, a role that has recently involved him in work he would prefer to put behind him. His method of recovering from it is golf, played at the end of the day, which is the only time of day he can be out of doors for long.

Natalie owns the course, is raising her daughter Mia on her own, and has learned to be cautious about men. She notices that her new regular golfer keeps to the hours of a person who does not want to be seen, and she keeps her questions to herself. Valerian, for his part, decides that the sensible course is to court her properly, without explaining what he is, and that plan has to be revised when somebody begins threatening Natalie and he finds that the danger is aimed at her rather than at him.
