Season synopsis

Mark Scout has separated his work memories from his life outside Lumon Industries, hoping for a few hours free of grief over his wife Gemma’s death. His office self knows none of that history. When Helly joins Macrodata Refinement, her refusal to accept a life confined to the workplace unsettles Mark, Dylan and Irving. Her outside self rejects her resignation, and even a suicide attempt does not release her from the job. Meanwhile, Mark’s former colleague Petey approaches him outside work after reversing the procedure. Petey’s illness and death leave Mark with questions about Lumon, while his neighbour Mrs Selvig is secretly his manager, Harmony Cobel. Inside, the team maps forbidden corridors, questions its unexplained number-sorting work and starts resisting management’s punishments.
Milchick briefly awakens Dylan’s office self at home, where Dylan discovers he has a son. The team learns that this ‘overtime contingency’ could let them reach the outside world. Dylan stays behind to operate the controls while the other three wake inside their outside lives. Irving searches for Burt, the colleague he loves, and finds him living with another partner. Helly discovers that her outside self is Helena Eagan, the chief executive’s daughter, and denounces Lumon at its own gala. Mark tells his sister Devon who he is, then recognises the office wellness counsellor Ms Casey in a wedding photograph: she is Gemma. He cries out that she is alive just before Milchick stops Dylan and shuts down their brief escape.
