Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Lumon brings the team back after its public rebellion, offering reforms while pressing Mark to finish the Cold Harbor file. Outside work, Mark agrees to Reghabi’s reintegration procedure after she confirms Gemma is alive; memories begin crossing the barrier between his two selves. At a company retreat, Irving exposes a different deception: the woman the team thinks is Helly is actually Helena Eagan. He forces management to restore Helly by threatening Helena’s life, but Lumon dismisses him, ending his office self’s existence. Dylan’s permitted meetings with his outside self’s wife, Gretchen, meanwhile create feelings that put his marriage under pressure.

Gemma is being held on a testing floor beneath the familiar offices. Different rooms awaken separate versions of her, each made to endure an unpleasant experience without remembering the others. Her attempts to escape fail because the elevator turns her into Ms Casey, who does not know she is a prisoner. Cobel eventually explains that Mark’s refinement files create those separate selves, and that completing Cold Harbor will leave Gemma facing death. For Mark’s office self, rescuing her also means confronting what dismantling Lumon might do to his own life and his relationship with Helly.

Mark completes the file, then uses Helly and Dylan’s distraction of Milchick to reach the testing floor. His outside self frees Gemma from Cold Harbor, where she has been made to dismantle the crib Mark built before her miscarriage without feeling its significance. They reunite, but the journey upstairs switches them back to their office identities. Mark guides Ms Casey to the stairwell, where she becomes Gemma again. He then chooses to stay with Helly instead of following his wife outside, leaving Gemma calling for him as he and Helly run through Lumon’s corridors.
