Baldur’s Gate 3 Withers: Dank Crypt Route and Respec Costs

On this page

What Withers changes

Withers offers a class respec at camp for 100 gold. Resurrection is a separate service costing 200 gold. Choose the character you want to rebuild, speak to him, select the class-change service, and work through the level-up choices again.

A respec returns that character to the level-1 selection process while keeping earned experience available for levelling back up. You can change class-based decisions such as abilities, spells and feats. Race, Origin and background remain fixed. A Paladin who has broken their oath must first deal with restoring it through the Oathbreaker Knight before respeccing.

Reach the crypt with a prepared party

The Dank Crypt is inside the Overgrown Ruins near the crash site. The locked beach-side door is one entrance; the chapel approach above it offers another way through the ruins. Bring companions and tools for traps and locks. You are opening a small dungeon, rather than collecting a free camp service from a harmless room.

If you enter through the upper ruins, deal with the occupants and search for the route down. Avoid splitting your party accidentally by dropping a single character through a broken floor into enemies below. Stop at each new room long enough to see where the others will follow.

Separate the trap room from Withers’ chamber

The large central sarcophagus in the trapped room is optional to Withers’ recruitment. Opening it triggers the room’s trap system unless it has been disarmed. A pillar button can stop an activated system; pressing it beforehand does not permanently make the sarcophagus safe.

The chamber you need is beyond the hall containing the large statue and resting skeletons. Search the side wall behind the statue for a button. It opens a hidden room and wakes the skeletons into combat. Have the whole party ready before pressing it.

After winning, enter the revealed chamber and interact with the ornate sarcophagus. Speak with Withers. He subsequently appears at camp. The game can also bring him to camp through story progression if you skip the crypt, but this route lets you deliberately meet him early.

Finish the rebuild before leaving camp

After paying, complete every available level-up and inspect the resulting equipment proficiencies. A companion who has changed class may still be wearing their old armour. Check prepared spells and the action bar as well; the character’s new build should be usable before you return to an encounter.

Use the class comparison to choose a role and the equipment guide to catch mismatches. You can make companions mechanically different without rewriting their personal stories.
