Build a Party You Can Actually Run

On this page

Baldur’s Gate 3 is described by its publisher as a story-rich, party-based RPG set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe, with 12 classes and 11 races from the D&D Player’s Handbook.

Custom character or Origin hero

A custom character takes a class and race from the Player’s Handbook and lets you define the identity yourself. An Origin hero arrives with a hand-crafted background and existing story ties. Both are supported by the official description, and the honest difference is how much of the character’s past you want written before you start.

The party is four, so plan the other three

The store describes gathering your party and taking the adventure online as a party of up to four. With 12 classes available, the practical question is not which class is strongest but which three companions make your chosen class’s weaknesses survivable.

Know what the Dark Urge changes

The Dark Urge is described as a fully customisable Origin character with its own unique mechanics and story. That makes it the choice with the most moving parts, and worth saving until you already understand how a normal run behaves.

Once the party exists, the fight starts before the first attack: read using verticality and the world as a tool. And keep an eye on companion trust as a resource.
