Season 4

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

With Moordale closed, Otis, Eric, Ruby, Aimee, Jackson, Viv and Cal begin at progressive Cavendish College; Maeve is at a writing program in America. Otis expects to restart his clinic but finds O already helping students. He treats her as a rival and campaigns for the therapist role. Ruby supports him, though he cannot return her feelings. Otis and Maeve struggle with distance, while he and Eric also drift apart as Eric explores queer community and faith and Otis fails to make room for his friend’s changing life.

Maeve clashes with professor Thomas Molloy, whose criticism makes her consider quitting. She learns that her mother Erin has overdosed and flies back to England, but Erin has died by the time she reaches hospital. Her friends help arrange the funeral. Maeve tries to resume her relationship with Otis, but grief and their different plans make it difficult. Jean struggles with postnatal depression while caring for Joy; she and her sister Joanna begin facing painful childhood experiences. Adam takes a farm job and discovers his talent with animals, while his father Michael starts repairing their relationship.

When Cal disappears, Eric finds them and their friends direct a fundraiser toward Cal's gender-affirming surgery. Eric comes out to his church, declines baptism and decides to become a pastor. Aimee explores photography and begins a relationship with Isaac. Maeve and Otis share a final night, then separate as she returns to America. There, she confronts Molloy about his discouragement and receives publisher interest in her writing. Otis recognises O's work and supports her continuing as therapist, and he and Eric repair their friendship.
