Otis and Eric arrive at Cavendish College after Moordale's closure and discover a school whose openness changes their old social positions. Eric quickly connects with Abbi, Roman and Aisha, while Ruby struggles to attract the attention she once took for granted. Otis expects to reopen his clinic and is dismayed to find that another student, O, already offers popular appointments. He responds by treating her as a rival. His attempt to advertise to the college becomes humiliating when private photographs appear on the projector. Cal nevertheless approaches him afterward to talk about changes they are experiencing while taking testosterone.
Maeve is studying writing in America, where she enjoys her classmates but misses Otis. His failure to answer a private photograph makes her question whether he is avoiding her, while he struggles with feeling exposed at a distance. They eventually speak, apologize and find another way to connect, although hearing about Tyrone leaves Otis jealous again. Jean tries to secure a radio job while caring for Joy and finds it hard to manage both. Otis calls for help with the household. Aimee meets Isaac in a lift, while Adam stays away from college and is urged to find work. Maureen tells Michael that repairing his relationship with Adam will require effort rather than expecting the boy to approach him.
