His plans to join Eric at Queer Night fall apart when Eric decides to go with his new friends instead. Ruby and Otis spend the evening talking about feeling left behind. She reveals why O's friendly reputation angers her: they knew each other at camp, where O exposed Ruby's bed-wetting to win approval from other girls. Otis and Ruby fall asleep together without having sex. The next morning, she encourages him to speak honestly with Maeve rather than letting his resentment grow.
At Queer Night, Eric finds people who understand parts of his life that Otis does not share. Michael's driving lesson with Adam becomes another awkward attempt to change their relationship, but an apology allows them to keep talking. Jackson visits a doctor and is referred for further investigation. In America, Maeve loses the internship to Ellen and receives a harsh assessment of her writing from Molloy. She throws away her work before Sean calls with news about Erin. When Otis finally charges his phone and returns Maeve's missed calls, she tells him that her mother has overdosed and she is coming home.
