Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
After the arrests at the end of the previous season, Tommy secures a last-minute reprieve for Arthur, John, Michael and Polly. The family is scattered when Luca Changretta arrives from New York to avenge his father and brother. His gunmen kill John and wound Michael, forcing Tommy to bring the Shelbys back together. The threat reaches beyond Small Heath: Tommy must protect the family while keeping their factories and expanding businesses running.
Tommy also tries to turn his business influence into a route to Parliament. Jessie Eden leads a strike for better conditions and equal pay at the Shelby factories, with Polly and the women in the family joining the action. Tommy draws Jessie into his dealings with the government, using what she tells him about the Communist movement to improve his own position. Arthur, meanwhile, wants out of the violence, but Linda’s efforts to pull him away from the Peaky Blinders do not hold.
Tommy offers Luca a settlement and pretends to surrender the family’s businesses, while the Shelbys secretly prepare a trap. Arthur’s apparent death at a boxing match makes Luca believe his revenge is nearly complete; Tommy has arranged the deception, and Arthur returns to shoot Luca when he comes to collect. Tommy’s meeting with Alfie Solomons in Margate ends with Tommy shooting him after Alfie admits his betrayal and says he is dying. Alfie is left presumed dead. With the feud over, Tommy wins election as Labour MP for Birmingham South.
