Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

The threat to Arthur draws him into more violence as Luca's men pursue the family. His rage and grief over John erupt in a brutal factory confrontation, leaving Linda to help steady him afterwards. Arthur must decide whether to remain in the company rather than return to the country life he had tried to build. Tommy continues to demand loyalty while Small Heath operates like defended territory.

Jessie Eden confronts Tommy with knowledge of his life before the war, including his first love, Greta, who died while he was still young. Their discussion connects his present wealth to promises he once made about changing the world. Tommy later increases the company's charitable donations and puts Lizzie in charge of two new children's institutes. Michael's adoptive mother visits him in hospital, reminding him of the quiet life he left behind.

Finn's uncomfortable experience with a woman paid to sleep with him leads Tommy to insist that he become a man and fill the space left in the family. Elsewhere, Polly meets Luca alone in a public bar. She proposes that he spare Michael, Finn and Arthur in exchange for Tommy. Luca knows her resentment after the arrests and appears willing to bargain. The episode leaves her offer hanging over the family's defence without revealing whether she intends to deliver it.
