Season 3

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

The Battle of the Gullet breaks the uneasy pause in the war. Rhaena claims Sheepstealer, but cannot control the dragon when she joins the fighting. Jacaerys avoids attacking her and leaves Vermax exposed to a Triarchy spear. The dragon falls into the sea, and Jace is killed by arrows after reaching the surface. The Blacks win the battle, but Baela returns his body to a devastated Rhaenyra at Dragonstone.

Alicent's plan lets Rhaenyra and Daemon enter King's Landing after Aemond leaves on Vhagar. Aegon is missing, so Daemon urges Rhaenyra to execute Otto Hightower in his place. She beheads him before sitting on the Iron Throne, and guards bring in Alicent and Helaena after catching them trying to flee. Holding the capital does not end the fighting: news that Aegon and Sunfyre are alive renews the challenge to her rule.

Rhaenyra orders Daemon to destroy the Hightower forces at Tumbleton, but Ulf turns his dragon on the assembled troops. Ormund dies in the burning, and Corlys pulls Daemon away from a town they cannot hold. In the capital, Rhaenyra dismisses Mysaria and forces the High Septon to choose between blessing her rule and death. Alyn kills him when he refuses. Helaena, kept captive and forced to eat, dies by suicide. Rhaenyra finds that Helaena had embroidered both her death and the destruction surrounding the queen's rule.
