Faceless Men

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Criston and his men enter what appears to be an abandoned battlefield, only for soldiers pretending to be dead to attack them. After the fight, Oscar Tully and Roderick Dustin reveal that Criston's company is surrounded. He challenges them to a duel, hoping for the death in combat he has imagined. Arrows kill him before he can fight it. In King's Landing, Daemon struggles to keep the Gold Cloaks serving after the murder of their leaders.

Guards find Alicent and Helaena in the secret passage, and Rhaenyra learns about Helaena's pregnancy. She tightens their confinement, treating the unborn child as a danger to her rule. Alicent uses Helaena's visions to reveal that Aemond is at Harrenhal, hoping to bargain for freedom. Rhaenyra instead sends her to deal with her son herself. At the castle, Alys convinces Aemond to stay and shows him dragon eggs, offering a future in which they rule together.

Hugh secretly enters Tumbleton to find his wife, but she refuses to leave with him and resents his absence while she needed protection. Gwayne reaches Ormund and recognises false Baratheon envoys as assassins, saving him and Daeron. Alyn asks Corlys to send men to protect King's Landing, challenging his father's anger over the refusal to legitimise his sons. Corlys agrees to return, but Roxton's men attack and capture him before he can bring that help back.
