Fisk's carefully ordered mornings are interrupted by problems inside his criminal partnership. Nobu is angry over the destruction of Black Sky, Owlsley wants protection and Madame Gao warns Fisk that he is losing control. The danger also reaches Detective Blake, who has regained consciousness after the shooting. Fisk pressures Blake's partner Hoffman into poisoning him. Matt gets into the hospital room too late to save Blake and is again blamed for violence arranged by Fisk's organisation.
Flashbacks show Fisk growing up with his father Bill, a would-be politician who bullies his wife and son. Bill forces young Wilson to attack another boy and orders him to stare at a bare wall while thinking about becoming a man. When Bill begins beating Marlene, Wilson kills him with a hammer. His mother helps conceal the body, and the father's cuff links remain part of Wilson's adult routine.
Vanessa visits Fisk after Gao's warning leaves him furious. He tells her what happened to his father, fearing her rejection, but she stays with him. Matt, meanwhile, joins Karen and Foggy's investigation and approaches Ben in his mask, urging him to expose Fisk. Before their story can appear, Fisk announces himself publicly as a benefactor of Hell's Kitchen and condemns the masked vigilante. The investigators watch their secret enemy introduce himself to the city on his own terms.
