Matt's pursuit of Fisk's money brings him into contact with Leland Owlsley, but a familiar tapping distracts him and gives Owlsley time to escape. Stick, the blind man who trained Matt as a child, has returned after years away. He warns that a dangerous shipment called Black Sky is arriving in New York. Matt agrees to help stop it only after insisting that they do so without killing anyone, a condition his old teacher reluctantly accepts.
Flashbacks show Stick meeting the orphaned Matt and teaching him to focus his overwhelming senses. The lessons give Matt control and the possibility of another father figure, but Stick rejects that closeness when Matt offers him a handmade bracelet. In the present, he criticises Matt's home and friendships as weaknesses. Their mission reaches the docks, where Matt discovers that the supposed weapon is a young boy and prevents Stick from shooting him.
Stick later admits he caught up with the boy and killed him anyway. Matt attacks his mentor, defeats him in a fight that wrecks the apartment and orders him out of the city. Cleaning up, he finds the bracelet Stick kept all those years. Karen's investigation also brings trouble: men connected to Elena's landlord attack her, and Foggy intervenes with a bat. She then brings him into her work with Ben, adding another ally to their investigation.
