Season synopsis

Walter and Jesse escape Tuco's desert hideout after Hank tracks him down and kills him in a shootout. Walter returns home and pretends to have suffered a fugue state. Jesse loses his house and meets his landlord, Jane Margolis. Their relationship offers him a chance at closeness, while Walter hides the business from Skyler. Hank's experience in the shootout unsettles him, and he begins to struggle with anxiety and panic attacks. Walter and Jesse resume cooking, but their friend Combo is killed by a rival crew and Badger is arrested.
Walter hires Saul Goodman to protect Badger, and Saul connects the partners to larger criminal contacts. Jesse and Jane relapse together; she finds Walter's cash and demands Jesse's share. During their heroin use, Jane rolls onto her back and chokes on her vomit. Walter watches and does not help her. Her father, an air-traffic controller, returns to work grieving and distracted. Walter's lies unravel as he balances the operation with Holly's birth. Skyler becomes suspicious and separates from him, while Jesse enters rehabilitation.
Jane's father makes a fatal error at work, causing two passenger planes to collide over Albuquerque. The season's flash-forwards resolve into wreckage in Walter's backyard, linking the disaster to the night he left Jane to die. Jesse carries the loss into rehabilitation, Hank struggles with trauma from his work, and Skyler has pushed Walter out of their home. Walter has missed Holly's birth and lost control of the story he told his family; his lie about the four days he vanished begins to unravel.
