Walt finishes his first round of chemotherapy and learns he will wait two months for the results. The treatment bills are mounting and the money from Tuco is dwindling. While sick in the bathroom, Walt finds Skyler’s cigarette packet clogging the toilet, prompting a confrontation about her smoking and the secrets each has kept. Jesse returns to Clovis to pay for the damage to his gate, arranges to store the RV in Clovis’s lot, and buys a used car. He rents an unfurnished apartment from its manager, Jane Margolis, who charges him extra because he has no credit history and pays cash. Hank, meanwhile, receives a promotion that divides his work between Albuquerque and El Paso.
Walt and Jesse argue about how to distribute their product. Jesse proposes using a small group of street dealers, and Walt reluctantly agrees after Jesse threatens to quit. Jesse recruits Combo, Skinny Pete, and Badger. At Hank’s promotion cookout, Skyler confronts Marie about the stolen tiara and insists she apologize; Marie eventually does. The new dealers sell well until one of Skinny Pete’s customers robs him. Jesse calls the lost money “breakage,” a cost of doing business, but Walt worries that the crew will look vulnerable. He gives Jesse a gun and tells him to deal with the problem. Hank’s new job also unsettles him: he has a panic attack in an elevator and later throws Tuco’s grill into the Rio Grande.
