Each Archstone keeps its own state
World Tendency belongs to a location, not your whole character. Boletaria can move toward white while the Valley of Defilement stays neutral or black. White generally makes a world friendlier. Black makes enemies tougher, but also raises the souls and rare drops they can yield. The extreme states unlock different NPC encounters, paths, and special enemies.
The easy mistake is dying repeatedly in body form while learning a level. Those deaths push the current world toward black. That is why players who want white events often return to the Nexus after defeating a boss, then continue that world’s exploration in Soul Form. A body-form death in the Nexus does not change an Archstone’s World Tendency.
Plan a tendency run before you start one
Do not chase Pure White and Pure Black rewards in the same casual pass. Pick the event you want, make a note of the world and its Archstone, then avoid unrelated body-form deaths there. Boss victories move the cleared world toward white, so clearing a level normally is the reliable early route.
Pure Black is a deliberate challenge state, not a punishment you must fix immediately. It can place a Primeval Demon and a named Black Phantom in a world, while enemy pressure rises sharply. Go in with healing, a route back, and enough damage to finish the job. Afterward, recheck the tendency screen before committing to another event. For route order, see the Archstone route; the Demon’s Souls guide hub keeps the other systems together.
