Demon's Souls PS5: Blacksmith Ed and Upgrades

This page includes story or boss spoilers.

On this page

Blacksmith Boldwin in the Nexus handles ordinary repairs and early reinforcement. For the deeper weapon paths, go to Stonefang Tunnel 2-1 and find Blacksmith Ed below the early mine route. Unlocking the shortcut back to him makes the trip much less painful, so do that before spending a long session collecting ore.

Ed’s important hand-in arrives after Flamelurker in 2-2. Keep the Searing Demon Soul, speak with Ed, and give it to him when the dialogue offers the hand-in. That unlocks advanced weapon work, including boss-soul weapon creation from compatible base weapons. A boss soul can also be useful to a spell teacher, so decide what your character needs before turning one into currency.

At either smith, choose the reinforcement option, select the weapon, and read the resulting path before confirming. Upgrade stones are not interchangeable across every branch. Pick one weapon that already fits your attributes and improve it steadily instead of spreading scarce material across a whole inventory. If you want an unusual scaling path, check its requirements before investing. A strong weapon you can actually wield is better than a theoretical late-game project. Pair this with Getting Started and the route to Flamelurker in Base-Game Progression.
