Dark Souls III: Curse-Rotted Greatwood

This page includes story or boss spoilers.

On this page

The Curse-Rotted Greatwood is optional, but its reward matters to players who want weapon transposition. Aim for the pale, swollen growths rather than the ordinary bark. Each broken growth creates a stagger or changes the phase, so do not stand under the body waiting for a head-on opening.

In the first section, clear enough of the nearby crowd that it cannot hit you while you watch the tree. Then circle to a reachable growth, strike it, and move before the weight shifts. When the ground gives way, heal after landing if needed and reorient before attacking. The lower arena makes grabbing and wide swings more dangerous because the boss can cover space quickly.

Treat the hand as a threat to avoid, not the target you must chase. Stay near a safe growth, wait for an attack to finish, and take a short punishment. If your damage feels poor, return to Firelink and reinforce the weapon before attempting to brute-force a long fight. The boss is a branch, so it can wait until you have Weapon Upgrades under control.
