About Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced

Ray tracing, faster loading and 3D audio are the headline upgrades. The part to read first is the migration, because your Story Mode save and your Online profile do not follow the same rules.

What Enhanced actually is

The package is Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, upgraded. Story Mode is still Michael, Franklin and Trevor working through a series of heists in Los Santos and Blaine County, and the campaign has not been rebuilt. What changed is the presentation layer: new graphics modes with ray tracing features including ambient occlusion, global illumination, ray traced shadows and reflections, plus support for AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS. Loading is quicker because the game uses the SSD and DirectStorage on supported hardware. Audio picks up Dolby Atmos support and improved fidelity for speech, cinematics and music, and on a DualSense controller the adaptive triggers add dynamic resistance, alongside the controller's separate haptic feedback features.

None of that rewrites the missions. It changes how the same city looks and loads on a modern PC, and the store lists faster loading as one of the headline upgrades rather than a footnote.

Enhanced and Legacy are two separate PC versions

On Steam, the old PC release is listed as Grand Theft Auto V Legacy, and its store page carries a notice that at the publisher's request it is unlisted and will not appear in search. Unlisted is not the same as withdrawn, and the two builds are not sold as a choice between one version and the other: the listing for Enhanced bundles Enhanced, Legacy and the Legacy Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack together. If your existing install is the release that has been on PC since 2015, that is the Legacy build, and the store page for Enhanced is where you check what an existing owner gets before buying anything twice.

The hardware bar moved with the upgrade. Enhanced asks for Windows 10, 8 GB of RAM and a GTX 1630 or RX 6400 class card with 4 GB of VRAM, and it lists 105 GB of storage with an SSD required. That last word is the one people skip. Having 105 GB free on a mechanical drive is not the same as meeting the line the store sets, and a PC that ran Legacy comfortably can still fail the Enhanced requirements.

The two migrations do not share the same rules

The store line covers both in one sentence, but the publisher's own support pages split them, and the difference matters. Story Mode is a save upload: you upload one save from Legacy, you can keep overwriting that upload until you download it in Enhanced, and once you have downloaded it that account has no further Story Mode migrations. Uploaded saves stay available for ninety days, and Story Mode progress you make in Legacy after the migration is not synced forward.

Online works differently. Your profile and progress stay in Legacy after the migration, so nothing is taken away, but from that point the two Online progressions stop syncing with each other. Both migrations are PC to PC only, and some profiles are not eligible at all, including accounts under suspension or a ban or profiles the service reads as having illegitimate or insufficient progress. The practical order is still to check your drives, choose the save you want, download it in Enhanced and confirm it loaded before you delete anything; the download sits on the Story tab of the landing page, or in the pause menu if that PC already has Story Mode saves on it.

GTA Online is where the content is

Enhanced carries GTA Online with it, and the online side is the part that has kept growing. Sessions are described as supporting up to 30 players. The Career Builder is the new-player route into it: you pick one of four businesses, Biker, Executive, Nightclub Owner or Gunrunner, and take a starting package of properties, vehicles and weapons with it. Hao's Special Works at the Los Santos Car Meet adds elite upgrades and exclusive modifications, and those vehicles feed into races and time trials built around them.

The store names more than forty online updates released since launch, from running a covert ops installation to vehicle robberies and bounty work, and all of that content is part of the package rather than a season pass. A count of updates is not a promise that every past time-limited reward is still obtainable, so treat the list as the shape of the mode rather than a shopping list.

Two other things sit on top. The store page lists in-app purchases, so the online economy is not purely earned currency. And GTA+ membership is a visible part of the current loop: the publisher's own posts hand members specific vehicles before general release, offer by offer rather than as a blanket promise. Neither is required to play, but pretending the online side is free of paid layers would be dishonest.

Should you play it

Yes, if you have never played GTA V and you want the version a new player can actually buy today. The campaign is the same three-character crime story, where switching between Michael, Franklin and Trevor changes how you approach a job, and Enhanced is the version with the current visual and loading work already applied.

If you already own the PC release, the question is narrower: do you want the migration, and which save do you want to carry? Read the Story Mode and Online support articles before you start, because they really are two different procedures with two different endings, and the Online side stops syncing once it moves.
