Valheim Mead Guide: Build the Ketill, Ferment a Base, and Use Healing Mead
On this page
Make a mead base at the Mead Ketill, then put that base into a Fermenter. The base is an ingredient for brewing; the finished mead is the drink you carry into a fight. If your old mead recipes seem to have vanished from the Cauldron, look in the ketill’s menu.
Build both stations before brewing
Both structures need a Forge for construction. Reserve the materials for the complete setup:
| Station | Materials | Placement requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Mead Ketill | 4 Tin, 6 Copper, 2 Leather Scraps | An active fire underneath, such as a Campfire or Hearth. |
| Fermenter | 30 Finewood, 5 Bronze, 10 Resin | A roof and at least 70% cover. |
The ketill has no upgrades to add; its recipes use station level 1. Place the Fermenter somewhere sheltered and leave its front accessible. Keep the fire under the ketill; the Fermenter’s placement problem is shelter.
You can arrange a small brewing corner beside your ingredient chest. Separate finished drinks from mead bases so a hurried departure does not leave you carrying something you cannot use.
Make six Minor healing meads
For one Mead base: Minor healing, take these ingredients to the ketill:
- 10 Honey
- 5 Blueberries
- 10 Raspberries
- 1 Dandelion
Craft the base, put it into the sheltered Fermenter, and let it work for two in-game days. Collect the six finished Minor healing meads when fermentation is complete. Start this before another gathering trip so the drinks can be brewing while you have something else to do.
That six-drink yield belongs to this recipe. Other drinks can have different yields, so use the recipe you are making when planning supplies for a group.
Minor healing mead restores 50 health over 10 seconds. Drinking it also starts a two-minute cooldown before another healing mead can be consumed. Give the recovery time to work: retreat or make space after drinking rather than trading another hit at low health.
Fix the station that is stopping you
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| No mead recipes in the Cauldron | Use the Mead Ketill. The Food Preparation Table handles uncooked food, so it will not replace the ketill either. |
| Ketill will not work | Check that the fire beneath it is lit. |
| Fermenter is exposed | Add roof and surrounding shelter until its cover requirement is met. |
| You have a base but no drink | Finish the Fermenter step; crafting the base is only the first half. |
| Another healing mead will not activate | Check whether the healing-mead cooldown is still running. |
Do not dismantle a working Fermenter to move it and expect the contents back. Destroying the structure does not return the mead or wine base inside. Finish and collect its contents before changing the brewing corner.
For a steady supply of Honey, build Beehives. Copper, Tin and Bronze covers the metals needed for the brewing stations.
