Hale interrogates Caleb's deteriorating host copy, demanding to know why he resisted her control. She threatens Frankie, prompting him to escape and try to contact his daughter. His route through Olympiad is littered with earlier Caleb copies, some dead and others still struggling through the same ordeal. Following their traces, he reaches a rooftop radio and sends Frankie a message of love and encouragement. Hale reveals that she allowed the escape so she could hear what he would say. His answer provides no secret she can use. She kills this copy, destroys the other failed bodies and begins testing another Caleb.
Bernard takes Frankie to the abandoned 1920s park to restore Maeve. Her body can be repaired, but her damaged pearl must be copied, so he hides the transfer equipment in a player piano. Frankie distrusts Bernard after discovering that he and Stubbs are hosts, while Bernard warns that someone close to her will betray her. Flashbacks show how the young Frankie and Uwade rescued Jay and brought him into their resistance family. The Jay who returns from the recent city mission is a host replacement. He attacks Frankie and destroys her radio after she hears part of Caleb's transmission. Maeve awakens in time to kill the impostor and save her.
