Hale rules a city where humans follow assigned stories and hosts can treat them as park attractions. Her victory has brought little satisfaction: she is bored, and hosts sent after resistant humans have begun killing themselves. One host, Hope, dies after encountering an outlier, leaving Hale worried that contact with these people is undermining her creations. She orders host William to eliminate another outlier. Stubbs accompanies resistance fighters into the city to rescue the same woman, placing them directly in William's path. William hesitates during his conversation with the target, and Jay shoots him before the rebels escape with her.
Teddy encourages Christina to test whether her thoughts can change the behaviour of people around her. The results send her back to Olympiad, where she discovers that the characters in her work correspond to people living throughout the city. A meeting with Hale, presented as an old friend, makes Christina suspicious enough to search for her in the company's records. Searches for Hale and Dolores bring no answers, while her boss warns her about the limits surrounding her work. Christina finally sees the tower she had failed to notice before. Teddy tells her she made this world. Host William visits the imprisoned human William, who urges his copy to question the reality he has accepted.
