Wednesday and Thing break into the morgue to examine the monster's victims. Missing body parts suggest that the killings include a deliberate collection, and Wednesday begins looking for evidence that can survive Sheriff Galpin's scrutiny. Xavier's neck wounds draw her attention to his private art studio, where she discovers drawings of the creature. Caught nearby, she asks him to the Rave'N dance to cover her snooping. Eugene recognises the cave in one of the drawings and takes her there. They find a broken claw, which Wednesday gives the sheriff alongside a bloodied sample taken from Xavier's studio. Xavier insists his animated artwork caused the scratches.
Thing disrupts Wednesday's planned stakeout by secretly inviting Tyler to the dance and obtaining the dress she admired in town. Wednesday tells Eugene they should investigate another night, but he goes to the cave alone. At the dance, Xavier confronts Tyler about his earlier bullying, while Enid's arrangement with Lucas becomes part of the town boys' plan to embarrass Nevermore. Red paint pours from the sprinklers, turning the celebration into a scramble. Wednesday's enjoyment ends with a vision of Eugene being attacked. In the woods, he has seen someone set the cave on fire before the monster pursues him. Wednesday reaches her badly injured friend after the attack.
